Enjoying my Favorite Holiday Commercials
Christmas is knocking at the door. This will be my first Christmas in Europe for the last three years. I particularly enjoy the Christmas market in Wiesbaden tomorrow, and my children can’t wait to go to the open-air ice rink. Together, we are transitioning into a Christmas mood, even if the outside temperature is not really winter-like!
In this busy time of the year, I hope you’ll find some calm and feel the Christmas spirit. To help you relax from the hectic aspect of Christmas time, I’ve included several of my favorite holiday commercials. Some of these ads are brand new, and some older classics you may know already. #Homecoming, Edeka (Germany)
The Germans are known for their cars, not for their humor. However, a TV spot by Edeka, a German supermarket chain unknown outside the country, prove that the Germans can be creative and do indeed have a sense of humor. Not an easy take for the British! Let me explain.
Americans have the Super Bowl. The British have the “Christmas Bowl,” which describes the serious competition among advertisers that occurs around Christmas. This year, the winner is Edeka #homecoming with more than 40 million views on YouTube in only two weeks.
Warthog, Canal+ (France)
Canal+ is a French premium cable television channel. It broadcasts movies, TV shows, and sports, mostly encrypted. This commercial should prompt you to think twice before offering anyone a puppy for Christmas!
Now This Is Christmas, Aldi (Australia)
Christmas is hectic. Aldi has the answer to help you to survive the holidays. Aldi is the world’s leading discount supermarket chain. Aldi is a German company, but this commercial was made in Australia for their Australian market.

It ‘s all about love! John Lewis is a British department store. Since 2007, it has been known for producing memorable Christmas TV commercials. This one is from 2014.

Harvey Nichols is a British department chain with a flagship store in London. This commercial responds to the emotional adverts of John Lewis. Enjoy this funny commercial! Does it make you feel concerned?
Kmart Boxer Short (USA)
This is an older advert from 2013 but still so funny! I can’t stop laughing at it. Kmart is an American chain of discount department stores.
The Co-Worker Collection, Office Depot (USA)
I am sure you will recognize somebody from this lineup! Office Depot is an American office-supply retail company.
